What is hip pain
Hip pain is complex. There can be many variable causes of what causes hip pain.
The hip joint is located closely to other structures which include the inguinal ligament, the pelvis and nerve structures.
The hip joint itself has structures such as the labrum, femoral head and attachments of many internal muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Pain can also refer from the lower back and pelvic floor structures.
As Physiotherapists, we are trained in expert assessment and diagnosis of hip problems. If we suspect there is a medical cause such as a hernia, abdomen or genitourinary symptoms, we will always discuss with your GP for their assessment.
The most common hip complaints we see here at Rugby Physio:
- Hip Arthritis
- Low back pain causing hip pain (inside and outside hip pain)
- Groin strain (in the athletic population)
- Hip bursitis
- Joint and muscular related stiffness (often runners and cyclists) due to overload
- Hip flexor tightness and weakness
- Gilmores Groin
- Otis pubis
How Can Physiotherapy Help?
Physiotherapy treatment is the mainstay of hip treatment. Personalised exercise therapy programmes along with hands on physiotherapy are often recommended for hip pain.
At Rugby Physio, our treatment approach involves a combination of soft tissue therapy, hands on manipulation and tailored exercise treatments.
